The force crime support department is responsible for providing leadership, direction, support and advice in specialist crime functions and on all matters of crime strategy and policy. The breadth of crime support work is extremely diverse, ranging from technical and forensic support, intelligence work, specialist investigation unit support, to the investigation of murder and serious crime and the related incident rooms. Through the implementation of minimum standards for the National Intelligence Model this impacts on the service crime support delivers both internally and externally. The NIM delivers enhanced targeting and co-ordination, impacting upon and disrupting criminal activity. New developments in information technology systems and forensic science will create improved methods for criminal investigation and staff will be trained in the most up to date investigative, specialist, analytical and scientific skills. Our aim is to engage criminality by preventative, pro-active and reactive measures, through exploiting the potential of intelligence and technology and the effective efficient use of our people and their skills. These aims and the requirements included within my departmental plan are the cornerstone of how crime support will meet the strategic aims of the force, in reducing crime, reducing the fear of crime, increase public safety and contribute towards the service of justice.
