14 YEAR OLD SHOT
Acting upon information received on the 17/7/08 at about 7:45pm, police visited the K.H.H.H. Trauma Room where one GLENFORD MARTINEZ, 14yrs, of 4 ½ Miles Western Highway was seen with an apparent gunshot wound to the lower right side of the buttocks. MARTINEZ reported to police that at about 7:30pm on the 17/7/08 whilst at the basketball court on Levi Slusher Street, Belize City talking to a female friend, he was approached by one KEITH MIDDLETON, who punched him on the head, then knocked his head against a cement bleacher and was told to leave the area. MARTINEZ remained and MIDDLETON came back a few minutes later with another male person, who threatened to beat him. Fearing for his life, he decided to run away and heard the male person telling MIDDLETON to take out "the thing". Martinez stated he then heard three gunshots behind him and immediately felt pain to the right lower buttocks. Police are looking for the suspects and continue their investigation.
VEGAS CASINO SHOOTING – BELIZE SIDE OF THE STORY
At about 11:00pm on 16.7.08, George Hardie Sr, 74yrs, American Businessman, Manager and Owner of Las Vegas Casino situated in the area of the Corozal Free Zone reported to police that at about 5:00am on 13.7.08 – he was out of the country -- he was informed that two male Mexicans who were at Las Vegas Casino started behaving disorderly (assaulted waiter Robin Hernandez). They were escorted out of the Casino building to the parking lot area where they boarded a small car (license plates No. unknown). The men then tried to reverse the said vehicle on the Security Officers who had to get out of their way. About (20) minutes later the said vehicle returned to the Casino parking lot and a person within the vehicle opened fire at the Casinos’ Security who returned fire. The vehicle then traveled a distance and fired two more shots in the direction of the Casino. The Free Zone security then responded and the vehicle sped off to the Mexican Border and were pursued by George Hardie Jr, 40yrs, American national of Las Vegas Casino, Security Guards, Curlin Thompson, 40yrs, of Calcutta Village, David Abner Gomez, 33yrs, of # 29-6th Street, Corozal Town and Martin Alfonzo Miller, 40yrs, of Calcutta Village. They had in their possession three 9mm Pistols belonging to Las Vegas Casino with which they drove into the Mexican territory where all four members were detained.
COMMON-LAW HUSBAND CHARGED FOR INSULTING WIFE Nurvi Castaneda, 36yrs, Secretary of San Joaquin Village, Corozal District reported that about 9:00pm on 16.7.08 while at her house, her common-law- husband Wilbert Pol arrived home under the influence of Alcohol and asked for food. Upon telling him that there was no food he began to insult her using very vulgar and degrading words. Annoyed, she locked herself in her bedroom then Pol brought down the door with a hammer.
Castaneda was advised to visit Human Services and Magistrates Court to apply for Occupational and Protection Order. Meanwhile, police have formally arrested and charged Wilbert Pol for the Offense of “Insulting Words.” The commissioner of Police has reaffirmed his zero tolerance policy for abuse in any form – physical, verbal or emotional – and those found culpable will be dealt with the full force of the law. Reference murder report sent on 11.07.08, Police have arrested Derrick Parham, 18yrs, Belizean laborer of #123 Curassow Street, Belize City and Kendrick Parham, 24yrs, Belizean laborer of Mahogany Heights Village, both for the crime of Murder caused to Orlando Montero.
POST MORTEM EXAMINATION
Between the hours of 9:15 and 12:00pm on 16.07.08 a Post Mortem Examination was conducted on the body of Nixoly Lazo, Honduran laborer of Cowpen Village, on the scene near Sunset Beach, where at the conclusion of the examination doctor certified the cause of death as Bronchile Aspiration due to stab wound to the neck.
